X Factor boss Simon Cowell says he loves The Simpsons because they are allowed to be crueller than he is.

The cartoon series is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Simon, 50, who has starred in the show, said: “In a world that’s gone horrendously politically correct, where you can’t say this or you can’t say that, they can get away with it because they’re a cartoon.

“They just couldn’t care less, they’ll insult anybody.”

Simpsons creator Matt Groening, 55, says he had to fight to colour the characters yellow. He tells Radio Times: “The animators chose this conventional pink which passes for Caucasian in cartoons and always disturbed me.”
