GIANTS STEP RUGHT MOVE FOR ME

ABOVE: THE BOY"S DONE HUDD: Kevin Brown couldn't be happier with life at Huddersfield
27th August 2009

By Martin Richards

KEVIN BROWN is conclusive proof that there’s life after Wigan.

Sacrificed to salary cap pressure at the Warriors following the arrival of world record signing Stuart Fielden, the  24-year- old stand-off’s decision to make his loan move to Huddersfield permanent has been vindicated.

Brown has joined four other Wigan rejects – Luke Robinson, Stephen Wild, David Hodgson and Martin Aspinwall – in helping to awaken the Giants from their long slumber.

Under the guidance of new coach Nathan Brown, his half-back partnership with Robinson has been one of the key elements in

Huddersfield’s passage to their first Wembley fi nal for 47 years on Saturday and a near-certain top four finish in Super League.

Add to that the infl uence of  loose forward Wild – two tries in the  semi-fi nal win over St Helens – and it would certainly appear to be Wigan’s loss and Huddersfield’s gain.

Brown said Huddersfield’s abortive move for Australian half back Todd Carney this year, which fell though because of visa problems, didn’t affect him.

He said: “It never unsettled me,  if anything it freshened me up. I didn’t know where Carney would be playing but Nathan told me at the start of the sea- son that I would defi nitely  be his stand-off.

‘‘Nathan has stuck with Luke and I and given us confidence.

“Moving from Wigan has worked out well for me. We are attracting quality players now. They want to play for a good coach and we are dangling a carrot for them.

“A lot of people thought I had taken a backward step by going to Huddersfield, who they viewed  as unglamorous and unprofessional. Nothing could be further from the truth.’’
