KEVIN DAVIES: YOU WON'T DO IT

ABOVE: Kevin Davies thinks Manchester City will not finish in the top four this season
9th February 2010

By Dave Armitage

GOLDEN oldie Kevin Phillips has told Birmingham boss Alex McLeish that the club’s other strikers aren’t hot enough to keep him on the bench.

The supersub’s two late goals gave Birmingham a smash-and-grab home win against local rivals Wolves.

It gave McLeish’s men the three points that almost certainly means they won’t be involved in a relegation scramble even if they lost every remaining game.

But goals have been hard to come by for the Blues, and Phillips, 36, is confident he can weigh in with his share.

He said: “I hope I’m pushing for a start now. The team is winning, but there are two sides to that.

“We are not scoring that many goals and ultimately centre-forwards are judged on scoring goals.”
