ROONEY SUED FOR £11.5MILLION

ABOVE: Football agent Paul Stretford will give evidence this week
9th February 2010

By Jerry Lawton

FOOTBALL ace Wayne Rooney looked stunned yesterday as a court was told agents want £11.5m of his fortune.

The Manchester United star was watching the latest leg of his legal battle with management firm Proactive.

The agents claim Rooney, 24, and wife Coleen, 23, owe them £4.3m in unpaid commission under the terms of an eight-year contract signed by Rooney’s parents when he was just 16.

Added to what he has already paid, that will mean the company pocketing £11.5m.

Rooney’s lawyers are disputing the claim at Manchester Mercantile Court. They insist the “bad” and “unsatisfactory” contract was signed by Rooney’s “unsophisticated” dinner lady mum Jeanette, 42, and boxer dad Wayne Snr, 43, without independent legal advice.

Coleen insists she has never signed a written agreement with Proactive to pay them anything.

Lasting

Rooney’s lawyers said nearly all other Premiership players had contracts lasting just two years. Rooney’s was the only eight-year deal on Proactive’s books.

The England striker’s business agent Paul Stretford is due to give evidence this week.

The case was adjourned yesterday for legal arguments.
