RACE ACE PAUL HURRY CAN LAND TITLE

DAILY STAR SUNDAY
ABOVE: Paul Hurry
7th February 2010

JON Cook has hailed comeback racer Paul Hurry as Lakeside’s title key.

And last night he admitted his big gamble in offering the ex-Great Britain World Cup star a chance to rebuild his top-fight career.

The Hammers boss handed Hurry a contract even though he didn’t know if he’d be given the green light to start racing again.

Paul Hurry, 34, has spent the last four years fighting to get over a serious arm injury that threatened his career.

Relief

Cook said: “Four years ago he was actually told he could lose his arm.

“But he was given the all-clear this week and that’s a big relief to us all.

“He’s a big part of our title bid – he could be the real key to our chances.”

The Hammers finished third in the Elite League last season but crashed out of the play-offs to eventual winners Wolverhampton, losing both legs.

Added Cook: “Our first target is to finish in the top four again – but we want to win the Elite League title.”
