£1 ‘FINE’ FOR EBAY CONMAN

A WEB fraudster who duped eBay customers out of more than £100,000 has been ordered to pay back £1.

Phillip Shortman, 22, nicknamed “eBay boy”, led a luxury life selling non- existent goods on the auction site.

He took holidays in New York, hired limos and bought designer clothes.

Dozens of his customers demanded money back after he was arrested. But a court heard Shortman, of Cwmbran, south Wales, had spent all the proceeds.

He is currently serving 30 months for 16 frauds.

He was facing a £7,000 confiscation order but prosecutor John Warren told Newport Crown Court: “Shortman has no assets.”

Judge David Morris ordered him to pay a nominal £1.
