LEE BYRNE: RUGBY UNION IS HARDER THAN RUGBY LEAGUE
WALES full-back Lee Byrne has reignited the debate over the relative strengths of both codes by claiming that rugby union is a far harder game to play than rugby league.
“The league players won’t agree, but in union you’ve got more skills, the line-out, the scrums and so on, the kicking, so I’d definitely go for rugby union,” said Byrne (right), who played league with Bridgend Blue Bulls. [>

When asked whether rugby league was just about running in a straight line, Byrne, 29, said: “No. There’s a lot more than that. [>

“There’s certain angles you have to hit, but there is more to think about in rugby union. [>

“I don’t think fitness levels are that much different. League players train themselves to run through brick walls, but union players are probably covering a bit more ground.” [>
