SMARTPHONES CREATE SALES RISE FOR VODAFONE

SOARING sales of high-tech smartphones have rung up a sharp rise in revenue forVodafone over the last three months.


Turnover rose by 10% to £11.5billion for the third quarter to December, with revenue from data services, such as emails and internet access, rising above £1bn for the first time. The figures do not include the Apple iPhone, which Vodafone started selling in January, but this is expected to provide a further boost in the fourth quarter with sales of more than 200,000 iPhone handsets to date.


Underlying year-end profits are expected to hit the upper end of City forecasts of up to £11.8bn. The shares rose 4¾p to 139¼p.
