DRUGS giant GlaxoSmithKline is devoting more of its research to diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

The group wants to focus on areas where it can get the best returns on its investment.

It will also spend more on multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s, but cut back on pain relief and depression.

Chief executive Andrew Witty has increased his target for annual savings by £500million a year, on top of the £1.7billion already planned.

But he gave no details about job losses amid speculation 4,000 roles could go at the company.
