ABOVE: Figures from the last ten years show property values rose by 117%
1st January 2010

HOUSE prices across Britain rose by 5.9% in 2009.

Yesterday’s figures from theNationwide Building Society see the decade end on a high note for the UK property sector following a sharp fall of 15.9% in 2008.

The average cost of a home went up for the eighth month running in December, rising 0.4% to £162,103.

Nationwide’s chief economist Martin Gahbauer said: “Few could have foreseen this at the start of the year. But at this
stage, it seems likely that 2010 will see no signifi cant house price movements up or down.”
