I'M A CELEBRITY JUNGLE IN CRISIS AS GEORGE HAMILTON QUITS

ABOVE: George Hamilton leaves I'm A Celebrity
1st December 2009

By Peter Dyke

I’M A Celebrity went into meltdown last night as actor George Hamilton became the third star to quit the show.

TV bosses were left in a panic by the latest walkout, which came as it emerged the show was losing ratings.

The Hollywood star, 70, followed in the footsteps of Kate Price, 31, and Camilla Dallerup, 35, by leaving the show before being evicted.

It is believed that, like Camilla, he walked due to ill-health and fans slammed bosses for choosing stars who were not up to the task.

Recent evictee Joe Bugner, 59, revealed that George had grown weak and frail since entering the jungle.

He told how the crew even drove him around camp on a golf buggy as he had trouble walking. George’s exit could spell more disaster for ITV as two million viewers switched off after Kate’s departure.

And, with so many celebs quitting the show this year, fans have been left wondering if bosses got the line-up wrong.

Viewers inundated websites claiming the show has lost its sparkle. One message read: “RIP I’m A Celeb. The show is dead and buried after another quitter.”

And another blamed the ratings slump on Jordan’s appearance.

They posted: “It’s never recovered after the Price debacle in the first week, we never got to know the others and still they feel like strangers as we approach the end.”

Last night producer Richard Cowles said: “We’re pleased with the performance of this series which has averaged over 8.4m so far, the most watched series since 2005.”
