TV-cook Delia Smith picked up her CBE yesterday and dedicated it to all home chefs.

Through her recipes and telly shows Delia, 68, has been teaching the nation to cook for more than 40 years.

Her books have sold more than 20million copies and her TV programmes have been proved to influence the buying habits of the nation’s shoppers.

After receiving her gong from Prince Charles, 61, at Buckingham Palace she said: “There are so many people who do so much, so to be picked out is a great honour.

“As my husband said, it’s sort of a tribute to home cooks all over Britain.

“I still love cooking – but not after a hard day’s work.

“But if I’ve got nothing to do and can lock myself in the kitchen for a couple of hours with the radio on – then I love it.”
