BIRTHDAY FOR MAZDA

MAZDA aren’t saying much about this special 20th anniversary edition of the brilliant MX-5, because they don’t want to spoil it ahead of its launch at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2.

So I’ll do it for them. For starters, production will be limited to just 2,000 cars, each with a stainless steel Special Edition scuff plate with a unique serial number, from 1 to 2000.

It’s based on the 1.8-litre SE, which means it’s good for 122mph and 0-60 in 9.4secs, and comes with an exterior styling package with chrome grille, door handles and dashboard.

There’s also silver fog lamp surrounds, unique 17in alloys and stiffened front suspension.

Choose from True Red, Crystal White Pearl and Aurora Blue, all with matching interiors.

I expect it to cost about £17,000 and for that money you’ll also get what is arguably the world’s finest little sports car.
