RANDY Couture toasted his UFC 109 victory in Las Vegas by mingling with the young crowd at a nightclub.
And despite being 46 he didn’t look out of place at all. Just as he does in the octagon, Couture defies the ageing process.
He overcame fellow Hall of Famer Mark Coleman, 45, through a submission in the second round of their clash at the Mandalay Bay. And as he celebrated his victory, Couture said: “I don’t know what you are supposed to feel like at 46 – I have absolutely no idea."
“All I know is that I am still having fun. I am still smiling and I am still enjoying going to the gym and competing.” His light-heavyweight victory over Coleman was easy and Couture said: “I was very happy – we couldn’t have mapped it out better.”
UFC president Dana White said: “I think this guy is one of the best light-heavyweights in the world. He’s in the mix.”
White said Couture is a contender but the division has to shake itself out before Couture’s position on the ladder to a title shot is fully known. Couture said in the build-up to UFC 109 he would welcome a title fight against the winner of Lyoto Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua that headlines UFC 113 in Montreal on May 8.
