DVD REVIEW: THE WOLF MAN

5th February 2010

By Alan Frank

The Wolf Man (PG) (Universal £5.99)

Werewolf movies have always been popular and the first Full-Moon monster was Lon Chaney Jr in this black and white classic from 1941.

He plays an Englishman who is out walking near his ancestral home where he is attacked by Bela Lugosi playing a mad gipsy turned wolf-man.

Chaney kills the beast but cannot avoid being bitten – and he is doomed to become a werewolf himself as a result.

This vintage film is full of thrills as Chaney gradually changes from man to monster.

And it delivers plenty of eerie sequences which still chill the blood.

VERDICT: 8/10
