DANCING ON ICE: THONGS LEAVE LADS SQUIRMING

ABOVE: Dancing On Ice's Gary Lucy said none of the men wanted to wear the special belts
18th January 2010

By Peter Dyke

A RIGHT old ding-dong over thongs erupted on Dancing On Ice just before the live show last night.

The seven male stars, who were skating for survival, got in a tizzy because they had to wear special thongs.

They claimed the garments, which are called dance belts and are like cricketers’ boxes, were too uncomfortable to wear around their privates.

Bill actor Gary Lucy, 28, led the chorus of disapproval saying none of the lads wanted to put them on. He said: “The Lycra costumes are interesting but it’s the dance belt we’re struggling with at the moment. It’s essentially a thong and it’s not the most comfortable of things.”

But TV bosses have told the guys – Dr Hilary Jones, 56, Kieron Richardson, 24, Danny Young, 23, Bobby Davro, 50, Mikey Graham, 37, and Jeremy Sheffield, 43 – they must wear them for protection.

This is because some moves involve lifting their partners up and swinging them around and if a skate blade caught them it could cause serious damage.

Last week TV viewers gasped in horror when professional Andrei Lipanov, 33, did a frog lift routine with singer Sinitta, 41.

She had to rest her skates on his thighs, but she slipped and ripped through his trouser leg near his privates.

Afterwards she admitted: “That was a close call. That almost got his manhood.” Meanwhile, ex Corrie babe Nikki Sanderson, 25, was set to attend the live show last night to cheer on contestant and former boyfriend Danny.
